INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE OF WATER AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING (2IE), BURKINA FASO HOSTS 2ND WASEND SEMINAR

The 2nd WASEND seminar was held on the 13th July 2022 virtually with the theme “Meeting Africa’s Energy needs Sustainably with fluctuating Renewable Resource, what are the Challenges for Storage? Prof. Yao AZOUMAH, Managing Director of KYA Energy Group gave the seminar presentation.

The seminar gave insight into Africa’s energy needs, renewable energy and challenges faced in storage.

Participating ACEs (African Centers of Excellence) were:

  1. College of Engineering, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
  2. International Institute of Water and Environmental Engineering (2IE), Burkina Faso
  3. University of Science, Engineering and Technology, Gambia
  4. College of Engineering, University of Abomey Calavi, Benin

Prof. Yao Azoumah, gave a presentation on KYA Energy Group and how he developed a sizing method to meet the energy needs in Africa with fluctuating resources of renewable origin. Prof. Azoumah gave a demonstration of the consumption management software which continued with an interactive session where participants asked questions and gave comments on the presentation.

The Network Coordinator for WASEND, Prof. Jerry John Kponyo in his closing remarks thanked the resource person for his insightful presentation. He thanked all participants for joining the seminar and commended the seminar and symposium team for the good work done. He expressed appreciation to Advisory Board members who took time off their busy schedules to be part of the seminar, participants from the Association of African Universities and the translation team for their translation services.
